Captain and nr 8 Vitjitua Uapingene (Windhoek Gymnasium) scored the third and final try breaking away from behind a scrum, as Namibia U13 achieved a satisfying 24-8 win against the Golden Lions XV U13 at the SA U13 Academy Week in East London yesterday.

Fullback Gillmer Horn (Windhoek Affies) and prop Joshua Isaacs (Roots Gymnasium) scored the earlier tries for Namibia, along with three conversions and a penalty by Horn. The Namibians led 7-0 at halftime.

On match-day one, his team pulled through a 16-15 win against Zimbabwe.

In Pretoria on Wednesday, the Namibian team under head coach Jan Dames racked up a 43-28 win against the Iqhawe XV, a combined team of fringe players that missed selection from all provinces.

Namibia led 29-7 at halftime, with Janco Esterhuizen (Elnatan scrumhalf), wings Mias Nieuwoudt (Pro-Ed Academy) and Drikus Maartens (two, Edugate), flyhalf Joshua Platt (Roots Gymnasium) and centre Cayleb Buys (two, WHS) all making the list of try-scorers.

Conversions were added by Joshua Platt (3) and replacement Matthew Raubenheimer (1, Windhoek Gymnasium).

Namibia U16’s next opponent today will be Zimbabwe in the unofficial “test” match at 09:00.

The Zimbabweans on Wednesday came away with a 25-40 loss to Griquas, despite leading 15-14 after the first half. The Kimberley team eventually scored six tries against five unconverted Zimbabwean tries.

Namibia began their campaign at this tournament with a competitive 24-32 loss to the Griffons on Monday.
