Gymnasiums favoured against Affies

Last year's beaten finalists Windhoek Gymnasium will be looking to bounce back well after their league opening loss.
The metaphorical “wounded Lions” are expected to respond with a big performance at Windhoek Gymnasium’s Lions Den stadium in their NSSR under-19 premier league match tomorrow. Two weekends have passed since Gymnasium’s opening loss of the season against Samsung Windhoek High School at the same venue. Reigning champions WHS bounced back with a 16-11 win – avenging the “friendly” pre-season Hollard interhigh loss by 14-30 at FNB Vegkop Stadium earlier in May.
While Windhoek Gymnasium’s strong ball-carriers easily stormed over the gain line during the interhigh win, WHS showed a huge improvement in their defence, while also not giving their opponents’ goal-kicker JD Jankowitz the opportunity to sink them again.
WHS’ tries by left wing Luke Saal and replacement wing Steven van Wyk, along with fly-half McRein van Wyk’s two penalties sealed the deal. Gymnasium, who trailed 3-11 at halftime, could only answer with a try by nr 8 Vincent Scholtz and two penalties by Jankowitz.
Tomorrow, Scholtz will captain the Lions again after also being confirmed as the leader of the Namibia U18 team at the Academy Week in Mpumalanga, where he will be accompanied by six of his school mates who made selection.
Their opponents tomorrow, Autohaus Windhoek Affies, have no representatives in the Namibian U18 team. Affies is currently placed fourth on the log despite losing their opener at Stampriet against Farmstyle Elnatan (0-15), before narrowly surviving 24-21 in their away match against the “De Duinesig” combination at Walvis Bay.
Gymnasium vs Affies will be broadcast live by the NTV production team from 11:15 on Saturday.
