Tjongarero’s former PA appointed Netball Namibia SG
Netball Namibia has appointed former sports minister Agnes Tjongarero’s personal assistant (PA), Jessica Gaomuses, as its new secretary general (SG).
Gaomuses takes over from Sofia Simon, who was appointed to the role in October 2024.
In a statement issued yesterday, the federation confirmed that Gaomuses will assume the responsibilities of chief executive officer and accounting officer as part of efforts to strengthen its governance structures.
“This appointment marks a significant moment for netball in the country as [we] continue to accelerate the growth and professionalisation of the sport,” the statement read.
Strong leadership
The federation added that Gaomuses brings strong leadership, administrative expertise and a deep commitment to the advancement of the sport.
“In her role as secretary general, she will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, operations and financial stewardship of the federation.
“[She will] work closely with stakeholders to expand opportunities for athletes, coaches and administrators across the country,” the federation said.
Gaomuses is not new to sports administration, having served in a logistics role at the Namibia Rugby Union between 2014 and 2015.
She later took up the role of executive assistant to then deputy sports minister Tjongarero from 2017 to 2020, and continued in that capacity when Tjongarero was appointed minister later that year, serving until March last year.
