Thirteen-year-old shines in SA's toughest endurance ride

Just over half of all entries completed the challenging distance.
Twelve riders from Namibia competed as individual entries at the annual endurance ride of 205 kilometres held at Fauresmith in the Free State last week – a three-day challenge regarded as the toughest endurance horse-riding event on the South African calendar.Out of the more than 280 horses that started, only 149 successfully finished the distance.
Six Namibians were among the successful finishers.
Thirteen-year-old Jacobus Potgieter’s overall third position in the child rider’s division was the individual highlight of the touring group’s participation.
Potgieter’s horse Jabula Pikkewyn also won the sought-after award for the best conditioned horse in the child riders’ category.
Among the junior riders, Vune Robberts finished eleventh and Elbé Potgieter 12th.
In the lightweight division, Maya Janbey finished 16th, while in the standard weightclass Steven Goawab achieved 20th and Hannelie Coetzee 41st.
