Dance Sport Namibia has officially shattered its ceiling on Saturday.

Standing tall against elite dance crews and teams drawn from more than 25 countries across the globe, local powerhouse Fusion Flex Dance Crew snatched first place, gold medals, and a gleaming trophy in the fiercely contested Teen Category at the Global Dance Supreme in Cape Town, South Africa, writing an unforgettable chapter in the nation’s sports history.

The high-stakes international showdown drew phenomenal international talent, with Namibia fielding two exceptional crews: Fusion Flex in the teen division, and ACM Dance Crew holding their ground in the Open Category. While ACM delivered a relentless performance against seasoned international heavyweights despite missing a podium finish, Fusion Flex electrified the judges, turning the international dance floor into their personal victory lap.

The triumph goes far beyond a trophy and gold medals. Fusion Flex’s masterclass performance secured them a coveted wildcard invitation to the next global championship in Bangkok, Thailand, in June 2027, launching Namibian street dance onto the ultimate world stage.


Paradigm shift

Dance Sport Namibia president Leah Gaeses told Sport Wrap that the milestone victory marks a monumental paradigm shift for the discipline.

“This achievement has changed the game completely. Dance is not just a movement; it is a competitive sport and a street dance combination that stands out as spirits are lifted in Namibia.”

This historic breakthrough proves that Namibian talent possesses the grit, rhythm, and execution to conquer international arenas alongside competitors from every corner of the world.

As Fusion Flex sets its sights on Bangkok next year, they carry the roaring pride of a nation proving that when passion meets discipline, the sky is no longer the limit.


The athletes

Fusion Flex’s winning team, who took first place in the Teen Division and qualified for Thailand, consisted of Lume Koopman, Adrielle Young, Makayla Brandt, Marelize Potgieter, Mieke Fourie, Lily Coetzee, Ndeyapo Kakehongo, Chelsea Beukes, Kayden Mouton and Alina-Suzan Kamule.

ACM team, although they didn’t win, got another wild card invitation courtesy as Team Namibia representatives to compete in Thailand based on Fusion Flex’s result. ACM’s team members were Kavee Vezemburuka, Ngumetutjiua Hoveka, Tjaritje Veronica Uamunika, Lourence Murangi, Vekaama Tjiundje, Vatanaua Umunavi Tjaverua, Kaviheya Kondje, Timo Erastus and Dennis Janzer.

The group were accompanied by team managers Sandra Vezemburuka Apostel, Diana Tjiteere and Floresa Zeze.
