NAWISA, NSC launch women’s leadership programme
The Namibia Women in Sport Association (NAWISA), in partnership with the Namibia Sport Commission (NSC), launched a five-day leadership training programme at Town Lodge Ongwediva on Wednesday.
Running until Sunday, the programme is being held under the theme “Raising the Game: Advancing Women’s Leadership in Sport”.
It aims to increase women’s representation and influence in sports governance. Designed as a train-the-trainer initiative, the programme equips regional delegates with management skills that they can pass on to community sports structures.
The participants are expected to share the knowledge gained with others, creating a continuous cycle of leadership development across the regions.
Leadership foundations
The programme opened with remarks from NAWISA president Dr Rauha Haipinge and African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 representative Lisungu Banda.
The opening sessions focused on core leadership values, including integrity, accountability and ethical leadership.
“This programme is not merely a training event. It is a commitment to building a sustainable pipeline of competent female leaders who will drive policy, governance and participation in sport at every level,” Haipinge said.
“By empowering trainers who will replicate this knowledge, we are ensuring that the advancement of women in sport is deeply rooted in our communities.”
Practical management
Facilitated by Idda Shipuata, the programme also covers strategic planning, team building, conflict resolution and budget development, with an emphasis on financial accountability.
Haipinge will guide participants through sessions on establishing sports clubs, securing funding and drafting sponsorship proposals.
Dr Suzana Malunga will address community participation, youth leadership and disability inclusion under the Sport for All framework, alongside public-speaking workshops.
Regional action plans
The training sessions will conclude on Saturday with the development of regional action plans, implementation strategies and performance targets.
Karen Mubonenwa will facilitate the final modules on monitoring, evaluation and follow-up mechanisms before the programme concludes with a graduation ceremony on Sunday.
