Mwadikange Kaulinge SS set for tourney

 Mwadikange Kaulinge Secondary School is set to host its much-anticipated Annual Sports Tournament from Friday, 27 March to Sunday, marking the first edition of the event since it was last held in 2014.

The tournament is open to schools from across the country and will feature a variety of sporting codes, including chess, netball, volleyball, basketball (boys), and football for boys.

Notably, this year’s edition will make history by introducing girls’ football for the first time.

“Sports continue to play a vital role in the holistic development of learners.

Participation in such activities promotes discipline, teamwork, resilience, and focus, qualities that positively influence both academic performance and personal growth.

Beyond individual benefits, events like these foster unity and pride within communities, bringing people together through shared experiences,” organisers said.

Adding to the excitement, the school will host a prestigious beauty pageant.

The pageant aims to empower young women by promoting confidence, leadership, and cultural appreciation, and will be hosted on Saturday evening.

“Schools are encouraged to give aspiring models an opportunity to participate in the competition.”

Entertainment will also be a highlight of the evening, with popular local artist Ananias Paulus, also known as Kastyle NdongaBoy, expected to perform alongside a lineup of promising upcoming artists.

The tournament is primarily funded through the school’s fundraising initiatives, with additional support from Omukwana Bakery and several prominent individuals.

Further contributions include infrastructure support from Tyuuwa’s Catering Services, led by Hilde Shitumbapo, who provided a tent, tables, and chairs.

Esther Nakathingo from Ponhofi Secondary School also donated basketballs for the event.

At the last tournament in 2014, Gabriel Taapopi Secondary School dominated in both boys’ football and netball, while Ponhofi SS claimed the basketball title and Mwadikange Kaulinge SS secured victory in volleyball.

Registration fees:

Boys’ football: N$1,000

Netball: N$750

Girls’ football: N$600

Volleyball: N$600

Basketball: N$600

Chess: N$500

Prizes:

Winners across all categories will receive cash prizes, floating trophies, and medals, with boys’ football champions set to take home N$5,000, the highest prize on offer.

Spectators can also look forward to a lively atmosphere, with a variety of food and refreshments available throughout the tournament. Music will be provided by DJ Wise, ensuring an entertaining experience for all attendees.

“We are ready to serve not only the Ondobe community, but the entire nation at large,” said chairman Jonas Tobias.
