Anticipation is building as the country’s top-tier volleyball league, the MTC Volleyball National League (VNL), returns to the capital for the fourth round this weekend.

Having served off at the Windhoek Showgrounds in May, the league has featured action-packed weekends, with the most recent round in Otjiwarongo last month offering 22 matches across the women’s and men’s sections.

The fourth round promises similar intensity, with 20 matches scheduled across both sections.

Saturday’s women’s action will see title holders and current log leaders Revivals open their campaign at 09:00 against Six Stars. At the same time, Nampol will face University of Namibia (Unam) Queens.

High stakes

Revivals will be aiming to hold onto the top spot, which they reclaimed in the previous round after winning all their matches in straight sets, including a statement victory over then-leaders Unam Queens.

Unam Queens, now sitting second with 12 points, will be looking to hold their position on the table when they face third-placed Namibia Defence Force (NDF) Phoenixes, who trail them closely with 11 points. A win in their 13:00 clash and the remainder of their matches could strengthen their hold on second place.

At 13:00, Nampol return to face Ball Busters, followed by Six Stars versus Kudos at 15:00. The final women’s fixture of the day will see Revivals return to the court at 17:00 to face Phoenixes.

Sunday’s action will start with two simultaneous matches at 09:00. Six Stars will take on Nampol Otjozondjupa, while Ball Busters face Phoenixes.

The final round of women’s fixtures will begin at 11:00 with Kudos facing Unam Queens, alongside Revivals versus Nampol.

Men’s fixtures

In the men’s section, Calvary Eagles will open the day at 11:00 against Nampol, alongside Unam Hard Hitters versus Keetmanshoop Correctional Facility.

Defending champions and log leaders Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) will be in action at 13:00 against Mighty Gunners. Calvary Eagles return to the court at 15:00 to face Afrocat C, followed by Unam Hard Hitters versus NDF Raptors at 17:00.

The day’s final fixtures, scheduled for 19:00, will see Afrocat C take on Nampol and Keetmanshoop Correctional Facility go up against Mighty Gunners.

Sunday’s men’s action starts at 09:00 with Hard Hitters versus Mighty Gunners, followed by Afrocat C facing Keetmanshoop Correctional Facility at 11:00.

The round’s final and most anticipated showdown will take place at 13:00, when log leaders Namibian Correctional Service, with 18 points, meet second-placed NDF Raptors, who are just one point behind on 17.

This fixture was originally scheduled as the final match of the third round in Otjiwarongo but was halted with NCS leading 2-1 due to lighting issues at the venue.

Ready

League coordinator Albert Khevare confirmed that preparations are nearly complete.

“The offices are ready, the facility is ready, and the teams are gearing up to travel to Windhoek. We are ready to put up a great show as usual,” he said.
