Final day determines WGC's Tournament of Champions

The Windhoek Golf & Country Club hosted its long-awaited and popular Tournament of Champions last weekend.

The competition was the culmination of a season-long series of monthly battles for 24 sought-after places for players to earn selection for the final. Qualified players were divided into the Charmain’s vs Club Captain’s teams.

The final was sponsored by XCO Sports Wear and ABInBev.

The proceedings already started on Wednesday evening when the kit handover and draw took place in the lounge of the club in the presence of the WGC Chairman and Club Captain.

Saturday was a long day as all players had to complete 36 holes – betterball in the morning session and foursomes in the afternoon session. At the end of the first day both teams were tied at six points each.

In Sunday’s round, the singles format was in the program and 12 valuable points were up for the taking. The competition went down to the wire when the Chairman’s team secured eight points to take the title by a 14-10 margin.

The winning Chairman's Team consisted of Paul Grobler, Tommy Nangombe, Jan van Wyk, Wisdom Moyo, Celonika Robinson, Hansina Hinda, Charl Brits, Milton Eiseb, Gustav Jung, Likius Nande, Burger Bergh and Cor Beuke.

The Captain's Team members were Desmond van der Merwe, Sponks Mohale, Bertus Damon, Monty Rukoro, Etienne Brits, Lucy Mohale, Danie van Schoor, Aldo Beukes, Alvine Samuel, Jafta, Corneels, Willie Triegaardt and Toady Gurirab.
