Capricorn Group has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and sports by renewing its sponsorship of the Capricorn Schools Netball League. The 2025 season officially launched on Friday, 16 May, at Wanderers Stadium in Windhoek’s Pioneerspark suburb, and will run until 22 August, when the national playoffs are expected to conclude.

The league, which has grown steadily in participation and reach since Capricorn Group took over from its subsidiary Bank Windhoek in 2017, now features 85 teams from across eight regions.

“We are proud of our Group’s legacy of positively contributing to netball development in Namibia over many years,” said Marlize Horn, Group Executive: Brand & Corporate Affairs at Capricorn Group. “This league provides a platform for young players to grow, not just as athletes, but as future leaders — learning values such as teamwork, commitment and hard work.”

This year, 30 schools — including 17 public and 13 private institutions — are participating. Matches are being contested in the U/12, U/13, U/14, U/15, U/17, and U/19 age groups.

The Capricorn Schools Netball League is endorsed by the Namibian School Sport Union (NSSU) and continues to provide opportunities for young girls to develop their skills and compete at a high level.

Chairperson of the League, Mrs Liezel Garbers, expressed excitement about the new season, noting the increasing quality and competitiveness of the games.

“We are thrilled to get the 2025 season underway,” she said. “We’re grateful for the continued support from Capricorn Group and look forward to another exciting chapter of school netball in Namibia.”
