Benchmark set at Otjiwa spring kick-off shoot
Otjiwa Lodge recently hosted the latest event of the Namibia Hunting Rifle Shooting Association.
Shooters gathered for a highly enjoyable weekend to kick off the spring season. The competition was marked by strong performances, friendly rivalry and excellent sportsmanship.
The weekend got off to an impressive start on the Friday with the .222/.223 Class competition. Francois Marais Junior set the standard with a superb performance and a score of 901.5 to claim first place in the Men’s Division. Marius Louw followed in second place with 851.3, while Alwyn Jooste completed the podium with 835.9.
In the Ladies Division, Karola Marais took top honours with a score of 685.1, narrowly ahead of Bets-Marie Coetzee on 680.0. Marquenite Muller finished third with 615.1.
Saturday’s Open Class competition continued the strong standard of shooting, with Marais Junior once again featuring prominently. He topped the overall standings with 840.4, followed closely by Marius Louw on 830 and Alwin Louw in third place with 745.
The Gold category saw Marais Jnr finish first, with Marius Louw second and Alwyn Jooste third. In the Silver category, Alwin Louw secured first place, followed by Bets-Marie Coetzee and Marquenite Muller.
Karola Marais claimed first place in the Ladies Division with 675, followed by Bets-Marie Coetzee on 670 and Marquenite Muller on 525.
The .22LR competition rounded off the weekend with another strong showing across the field.
Marius Louw claimed the Men’s and Overall title with a score of 840, followed closely by Alwyn Jooste on 830. Francois Marais Jnr completed the podium with 750.
The NHRSA said: “The Otjiwa weekend was characterised by high spirits, competitive shooting and a strong sense of camaraderie among competitors, families and supporters.
