Arysteq and Simonis Storm series mark record growth

Table tennis
The Arysteq and Simonis Storm Schools Table Tennis Series has concluded another successful season, marking three years of bringing young Namibians together through sport, teamwork and healthy competition. What began as a modest initiative in 2023 has grown into a movement reshaping youth table tennis across the country.

Record growth in participation

This year, the series hosted six tournaments, attracting an average of 60 players per event. This represents a remarkable 62% increase in participation since the series began, with students coming from schools across the Khomas Region and beyond. One of the most encouraging developments has been the rising involvement of young women, with their participation reaching 40% this year – surpassing international benchmarks for gender inclusion in table tennis.

A platform for skill development and inclusion

The tournament series is a collaboration between two respected Namibian financial institutions, Arysteq Asset Management and Simonis Storm, both of which are committed to community development and nurturing local talent. Through their joint foundation, the companies have created a platform that prioritises participation, skill development and access over pure competition, ensuring every young person who picks up a bat feels welcome and valued.

Expanding the game across Namibia

For this season, the series brought vibrant energy to venues across the region, with five tournaments hosted at Wanderers Sports Hall in Windhoek and one in Rehoboth. In addition to the tournaments, coaching clinics were introduced to develop foundational skills and encourage more learners to engage with the sport. This has created a ripple effect, with new players joining through peer influence and one additional school formally adopting table tennis as part of its sporting programme.

Investing in young people and communities

The partnership between Arysteq and Simonis Storm reflects a shared belief that investing in young people today creates stronger communities tomorrow. By supporting grassroots sport, the initiative builds confidence, discipline and teamwork among Namibian youth, while providing opportunities to excel in an inclusive and accessible environment.

Looking ahead

Planning is already underway for an expanded 2026 series, with the goal of extending the tournament to additional regions across Namibia. The vision is to bring the sport to learners in ||Kharas, Erongo, Otjozondjupa, Oshikoto and Oshana, creating pathways for even more young people to discover their potential through table tennis.

The series team is enthusiastic about continuing to grow the sport and enrich more lives through initiatives that unite communities and inspire excellence. With strong momentum, dedicated partners and an ever-expanding community of players and supporters, the Arysteq and Simonis Storm Tournament Series is poised to make an even greater impact in the years ahead.
