Kobus Reyneke delivered a dominant performance during Round 3 of the Toyota Gazoo Racing SA Cup at Zwartkops Raceway, only for a cruel tyre puncture to deny him a near-perfect weekend.

Reyneke was untouchable in qualifying, securing pole position with a blistering lap of 1:13.621, half a second quicker than his nearest rival.

Starting from pole in Race 1, he controlled proceedings from the front. Following a Safety Car period that compressed the field, Reyneke came under intense pressure but produced a decisive move around the outside to reclaim the lead and secure a hard-fought victory.

His strong form continued in Race 2 as he once again started from pole and quickly pulled away from the chasing pack. However, disaster struck while he was comfortably leading when a front tyre puncture forced an unscheduled pit stop. Although he rejoined and finished the race, he was unable to recover enough positions to score points.

The setback proved costly in the championship battle. While rival Connor Weston collected valuable points, Reyneke left Zwartkops empty-handed from the second race and now trails the championship leader by just four points heading into Round 4 in Port Elizabeth.

Despite the disappointment, Reyneke remained upbeat.

"The puncture was unfortunate, but these things happen. That's racing," he said. "We'll take the positives from the pole position and the Race 1 win, keep working hard, and come back stronger for the next round. I haven't given up, there's still a lot of racing left."

Although luck was not on his side, Reyneke's pace throughout the weekend reinforced his status as a genuine title contender. With four rounds remaining, the battle for the 2026 championship is poised to intensify.
