Van Wyk, Van Zyl triumph at Rossmund Betterball
A competitive field of 36 golfers turned out at Rossmund Golf Club last weekend for the Art Africa-sponsored Betterball Medal competition, played in near-perfect coastal conditions.
The pairing of Douw van Wyk and Fred van Zyl delivered the standout performance of the day, carding an excellent 59 nett to secure the overall victory.
Hans Naobeb and Thomas Shitaleni finished runners-up on 63 nett, while Lynette Rautenbach and Heidi van Niekerk claimed third place with 64 nett.
The battle for fourth place went down to a count-out after both teams posted 65 nett, with Helgo Lange and Steven Johns edging Achmet Abrahams and Johnny Flook.
The competition also produced two notable nearest-to-the-pin performances. Fred van Zyl claimed the prize on hole seven, while Achmet Abrahams delivered the closest approach on hole 12.
Organisers expressed appreciation for the strong field that turned out to support long-time sponsor Art Africa.
“It was wonderful to see such a good field supporting the event and enjoying the fantastic conditions out on the course,” said organisers.
They also extended thanks to Art Africa for its continued commitment to golf in the Swakopmund community.
“We are grateful for the ongoing support from our sponsors and the enthusiasm shown by the players. It made for a great day of golf at Rossmund,” organisers added.
