Nel takes NamKids Windhoek Open honours

Samuel Nel carded a 54-hole total of 216 to finish level par and claim overall honours in a field of 26 golfers at the NamKids Windhoek Open, held at Windhoek Golf Course last weekend.

Nel opened with a one-under-par 71 before improving by a shot with a second-round 70. The two rounds left him three under heading into the final round, where a 75 brought him back to level par for the tournament and sealed the overall title.

Prince Kahimise topped the under-19 boys’ standings after rounds of 78, 76 and 82 for a total of 236 (+20), finishing ahead of Wouter Smith, who also ended on 236 (+20) after rounds of 78, 80 and 78.

The under-15 boys’ competition was decided by a single shot, with Declan Renton prevailing on 231 (+15) following rounds of 79, 80 and 72.

Regardt Kruger finished second on 232 (+16), while JP le Grange took third on 241 (+25). Caleb Volschenk followed on 244 (+28), with Daniel Potgieter fifth on 257 (+41). 

Zahrii Delport finished first in the under-15 girls’ section with a two-round total of 238 (+94).

Juandre Wise claimed the under-13 boys’ honours after rounds of 85 and 84 gave him a total of 169 (+25).

Dian Holland Mutter followed three shots behind on 172 (+28), while Armand Nederlof finished third on 183 (+39).


Younger divisions

Harru Botes led the under-11 boys with rounds of 89 and 92 for a total of 181 (+37).

Hage Africa Auala placed second on 214 (+70), followed by Keanu du Preez on 220 (+76) and Connor Bezuidenhout on 250 (+106).

In the under-nine girls’ section, Ndahafa Nambahu took first place with a two-round total of 109 (+37), six shots ahead of Manoela Gustavo on 115 (+43). Zahle Delport finished third on 141 (+69).

Corné Brockman won the under-nine boys’ section after rounds of 47 and 53 gave him a total of 100 (+28), while Janko de Klerk finished second on 108 (+36).

Ashley Zinyakatira completed rounds of 57 and 56 for a total of 113 (+41) to take the under-seven boys’ honours.

Tournament organiser Damia da Silva congratulated the winners and all the junior golfers who competed.

“A sincere thank you to Windhoek Golf Course for hosting another outstanding event, as well as the parents and supporters who made this tournament possible,” he said.

“Every tournament is another step in developing the next generation of Namibian golfers. We are proud of every player who challenged themselves, competed with integrity and represented the game so well.”
