Haseb wins Gold Cup
The 2026 Gold Cup concluded at the Windhoek Golf Club after an exciting weekend of competition that attracted 74 golfers, including 21 women, from across the country and beyond.
Players in the men's A and B divisions competed over 54 holes across two days, playing 36 holes on the opening day and a further 18 holes on the final day. The C division and Stableford categories played 36 holes, with 18 holes contested on each day.
Windhoek Golf Club chairman Gavin van Wyk thanked all participants for taking time out of their schedules to compete in the prestigious tournament. He also expressed appreciation to the club management, staff and golf committee for their efforts in ensuring the successful hosting of the event.
Namibia Amateur Ladies Golf Union (NALGU) president Suene Venter praised the growing participation of women golfers and encouraged more ladies to take part in national open tournaments. She also extended special thanks to visitor Lebo Gaobakwe from Botswana for participating and invited golfers from neighbouring countries to continue supporting Namibian events.
The Windhoek Golf Club captain Toady Gurirab commended the course management team for maintaining the course in excellent condition throughout the tournament. Appreciation was also extended to the kitchen and bar staff, greenkeepers, the pro shop team, starters Wessel Louw and Trevor Andreas, and course marshals Trevor Mills and Hajo von Prittwitz for their contributions to the smooth running of the competition.
On the course, Wensley Haseb emerged as the overall best gross winner after posting rounds of 75, 72 and 73 for a total of 220. Todd Parker finished as runner-up on 221.
Joseph Martin secured the overall best nett title with a score of 214, while Justus Amutenya claimed runner-up honours on 218.
In the ladies' competition, Wilna Bredenhann won the overall best gross title with a total of 166, while Sesilia Nkosi captured the overall best nett award on 146. Anecia Le Grange finished as runner-up in the gross category on 179, while Natasja Louw was runner-up in the nett division on a count-out after also scoring 146.
The men's A division best gross title went to Jackson Kawaya on 226, edging Kasoma Paulino on count-out after both golfers finished level on 226. Gelson Gidieon won the best nett category with 220, while Alfie Ndyenge finished runner-up on 222.
Milton Eiseb claimed the men's B division best gross title with 254, ahead of Marc Schaefer on 260. Danie van Schoor won the best nett competition on 221, while Fergusson Paulse was runner-up on 226.
In the ladies' B division, Alvine Samuel secured the gross title with 183, while Birgit Schaffitz won the nett competition on 148.
Thomas Shitaleni was the standout performer in the men's C division, winning the gross category with 166. Paul Grobler finished runner-up on 180. Alois Nyandoro claimed the best nett prize with 144, while Wee Junbog finished second on 151.
The Stableford division was won by Nelago Amutenya with 75 points.
Lynette Rautenbach finished second on 72 points, while Harold Kisting placed third on 71 points after a count-out from Borris Erasmus, who also finished on 71 points.
Players also enjoyed lucky draw prizes sponsored by The Corner Butcher.
The winners were Lebo Gaobakwe of Gaborone, Celonika Robinson, Matheus Sakeus, Toady Gurirab, Bonni Paulino and Trevor Andreas.
Attention now turns to the Team Stableford Multiplier tournament, which will be hosted by Windhoek Golf Club on 20 June 2026.
