Warriors technical team selection explained

Namibia Football Association (NFA) has leapt to the defence of the recent Brave Warriors technical team that was selected for the friendly against Comoros. This was in response to complaints from members of the public via social media platforms.

Many found it strange, given the number of individuals selected for the Comoros trip. NFA spokesperson Isack Hamata said the decision to select the recent technical team was made by the NFA leadership, and they see nothing wrong with it.

“The appointment was made by the leaders because someone had to be chosen to represent the team in terms of management. Coach Collin Benjamin had other commitments, which is why they appointed this interim technical team for the matches.

“This is also just on a temporary basis. It does not mean that they will officially remain part of the team,” Hamata said.

Comoros covered cost

Hamata further revealed that the trip to Comoros was based on an invitation, meaning that the NFA did not have to pay anything.

“I can also assure you that even if the number of people who went is raising questions, the NFA did not need to spend a lot of money because Comoros invited us and they had to cover the cost.

“I do not think it is always fair for people to complain because there may be individuals they have a personal issue with on something,” Hamata said.

The technical team consisted of coach John Sikerete, assisted by Young African boss Marley Ngarizemo, while Brave Warriors veteran Congo Hindjou was appointed as team manager.

Enrico Blaauw was appointed as head of delegation, while Andreas Wimmert is the deputy head of delegation.

Clemens Mukoroli was selected as the goalkeeper coach, while Likius was appointed as medic.

Robert Hoxobeb was made kit manager and Kati Nambandi fitness coach, with Ivan Tshabalala as media officer.

Most of those selected are also relatively new to the national team, with only a few who have taken the team to the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) event, such as John Sikerete.

Hamata further added: “It is opportunities given to the people, and I think it is very important to give other people chances. For those who are complaining, I just do not know what people want at times because there is no big deal here.”

Namibia’s Brave Warriors lost 1-0 to the Comoros Islands on Friday and were scheduled to battle the same team again yesterday at 18:00 before going to the press.
