Rundu Chiefs hope for better season
Rundu Chiefs Football Club owner Agripa Haindongo hopes his team will be able to turn the tables for the remainder of the season and avoid relegation at all costs.
Haindongo remains positive that his team will continue improving as the Namibia Football Premier League season enters its crucial stage.
The club, which was promoted from the first division last year, is far from safety and is currently lingering in the bottom half of the league table.
Haindongo’s wish is that his team stays in the premier league, given the amount of investment it has taken him to get the club back to top-tier football.
“I think we must admit that we as a team are not in a good position on the log and we need to improve this year.
“There are still so many matches to be played. My hope is that we can elevate into the safety zone.
“As a club, we remain determined to do well in all aspects while avoiding relegation at all costs,” Haindongo told Sport Wrap yesterday.
Bad position
Rundu Chiefs are currently in 12th position on a league table that consists of 16 teams.
The club has played 13 matches so far, winning only two, while playing to seven draws.
The Kavango East Region club has lost four of the 13 matches it has played so far.
Haindongo’s team has scored only 14 goals this season, while conceding 18 in the premiership.
They are currently sharing the same number of points with two teams below them, including Khomas Nampol, who are 13th on the table, and Life Fighters in 14th position.
The premiership will relegate three of the bottom teams, while three will be promoted from the first division.
Asked about his team’s position close to the relegation zone on the log, Haindongo expressed confidence in his staff.
“Yes, we are aware of the situation at hand, but we want to assure the fans that management will do everything in its power to ensure that the team does not bow out of top-flight football.
“It was indeed a struggle to get here, and we can’t just go down without a fight,” the boss reiterated.
The Rundu-based team secured its promotion to the 2025/26 season after beating Shooting Stars 3-0 to finish top of the North-East Stream First Division.
