Oshikoto regional league heating up
The Oshikoto Regional Football League (ORFL) produced another entertaining weekend of football as rounds 19 and 20 were played last weekend.
Saturday and Sunday saw teams battle for crucial points in the Second League standings as the season entered its decisive stages.
Round 19 kicked off at the Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Stadium in Ondangwa, where Young United and Safile United played to a 1-1 draw. Esiru FC and Ondangwa United also shared the points after an exciting 2-2 encounter.
The action then shifted to the Oscar Norich Stadium in Tsumeb, where Tsumeb FC and Onathinge United drew 2-2 in a closely contested match.
Benfica FC and Nine Eleven FC also finished 1-1, while league leaders Gerros Uri-khob strengthened their title ambitions with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over second-placed Omuthiya United.
Fontein City rounded off the day’s action with a convincing 2-0 win over Young Rangers.
Sunday’s encounters
The competition continued on Sunday with round 20 fixtures. Gerros Uri-khob and Fontein City shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, while Young Rangers bounced back to defeat Omuthiya United 1-0.
Nine Eleven FC produced one of the standout performances of the weekend by beating Tsumeb FC 4-1, boosting their position in the standings.
Benfica FC also impressed with a 4-2 victory over Onathinge United to keep pace with the teams above them.
Following the weekend’s results, Gerros Uri-khob remain top of the ORFL Second League table with 38 points, narrowly ahead of Omuthiya United on 37 points.
Nine Eleven FC occupy third place with 27 points, while Ondangwa United sit fourth on 26 points.
Benfica FC and Young Rangers are tied on 25 points, with Safile United close behind on 24 points.
Fontein City have moved to 22 points in eighth place, while Young United, Tsumeb FC, Esiru FC and Onathinge United continue to fight to improve their positions as the season progresses.
With the league entering its decisive stages, every point will be crucial as clubs chase promotion and look to finish the campaign strongly.
