Two Rundu Chiefs players, Klemens Chimba and Markus Kasekere, are the only two who were part of the team the last time they featured in Premier League football.

The club, which recently rose from the debts of despair and wilderness, has once again found its path back to elite Namibian football after gaining promotion.

The Rundu-based team secured their promotion to the 2025/26 season after beating Shooting Stars 3–0 to finish top of the North-East Stream First Division.

Rundu Chiefs may have made headlines for their promotion, but it has been the loyalty of team captain Hamututi and Kasekere—who have remained with the team since it was relegated about eight years ago—that truly stands out.

Club chairman Agripa Haindongo, who acquired the club in 2023 when it had hit rock bottom and was on the verge of further relegation, has lauded the players for their loyalty.

“If you look at the team that was promoted now and compare it to how it looked before 2023, one would say there has been a dramatic twist of fortunes—and it was all due to the money I pumped into the club.

I brought in so many players, including some who had played for other Premier League teams, but one thing I am most grateful for is the dedication and loyalty shown by these two players,” said Haindongo.

“It has been an incredible journey, and I am just proud and still celebrating the victory that brought us here.”

Investment

Haindongo further revealed that the club’s promotion was not just down to luck, but took significant investment and sacrifice.

He took over the football club and embarked on a journey to professionalise it, even paying players directly from his own pocket.

“I made sure that the club was registered as a professional football team, and I also brought in Premier League players to help push for that promotion.

It has all paid off now, and I am proud of that as we embark on a new adventure with the team,” Haindongo added.
