Hindjou hints at club rise

Okahandja United are contemplating personnel changes ahead of the 2026/27 season.

This was confirmed recently by chairman Johannes Congo Hindjou, who hinted at making significant improvements before the new campaign begins.

Hindjou’s club endured a mixed season across the league and cup competitions, prompting him to consider changes aimed at making the team more competitive.

“You know, as chairman of a club, one will always want the best for the football club, even though it is very difficult to manage a club in a league that does not offer substantial rewards or even monthly grants.

“We are, however, expected to make a few personnel changes, but that will also depend on assurances that the football league will commence again.

“Yes, we want to be successful and we want to make changes. That is why we must target the players we might need and identify any other areas we can improve,” Hindjou said.

The club finished third in the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup, which was played after the Premier League season ended.

It was United’s best finish in the NFA Cup since gaining promotion to the Premier League.


Premier League run

The club, however, narrowly avoided relegation after finishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

United could only manage 11th place in the 16-team league.

Hindjou’s side finished just nine points clear of the relegation zone, with Tigers, Life Fighters and Rundu Chiefs dropping out of the Premier League.

The team won only 10 of their 30 league matches, while losing 14 and drawing six in a season won by African Stars.

“I think it must ring alarm bells that we were not far away from relegation at the end of last season, and we cannot afford any more slip-ups.

“I think the biggest task will be identifying our shortcomings and making sure that we address them as soon as possible.

“I always tell myself that it sometimes becomes very difficult to maintain high standards in football because there is no serious money being generated at all,” Hindjou said.
