Green light for NFA Technical Centre transfer

The City of Windhoek has approved the sale of the NFA Technical Centre to the Namibia Football Association. The Namibia Football Association (NFA) spokesperson Isack Hamata however said that a decision about the purchasing of the erf was yet to be made by yesterday.
“The news only came on Tuesday night and the NFA Exco have not converged to make a decision yet.
“I believe this will be discussed at the next NFA meeting scheduled for Thursday.
“It will only then that we’ll be able to make a public statement on the way forward,” Hamata said.
The erf 340, which is 19720 square metres situated on Mahatma Gandhi Street in Katutura, will be purchased at a cost price of N$2,96 million.
This was revealed in City documents after the football governing body recently pleaded with the City to hand over the property they have been leasing for years.
“The NFA, which currently leases the property, applied to acquire ownership of the land to secure support from the Federation Internationale de Football (FIFA) for upgrading the facilities standards,” the document reads.
The NFA had initially requested that the property be donated to them by the council.
In their report, the council however opted for a sale rather than a donation, deeming it a fair decision from their end.
“While the NFA initially requested that the property be donated, the council resolved that a sale, rather than a donation, would ensure fairness and protect municipal revenue.”
The council emphasised that land donations are only considered in exceptional cases.
“Giving away land reduces the City’s revenue base and limits the ability to provide essential services and develop more land for residents.”
The city further reports that the approved sale price is based on the property’s official valuation in line with the City’s institutional land policy, which allows for the sale of institutional land at 50% of its market value.
“The decision supports the growth of local sports infrastructure while maintaining the city’s commitment to fair and transparent land management practices.”
The Namibia Football Association Technical Centre was established in 2010 and has since remained on land belonging to the City of Windhoek.
