The First National Bank (FNB) Women’s Super League officially returns this week following the launch of the season on Thursday evening.

The league will be played in various parts of the country, with Windhoek serving as the primary venue for most matches.

Namibia Football Association (NFA) league director Mabos Vries said that everything is in place ahead of the big campaign.

“It is very important that we are going to have another exciting season of top women’s football.

“It is important to thank FNB Namibia for coming on board and making sure that there is a league this season.

“I am sure that it promises to be a good season filled with entertainment and all,” Vries said.

Speaking at the official season launch at the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation headquarters, former Gladiators Football Club (FC) head coach Paulus Shipanga spoke highly of the competition.

He believes the competition will yield desired results going forward in the season and can produce more football stars.

“This is a great opportunity for the players and we can just be excited for them.

“Last season, women’s football was very competitive and we hope for the same again this season as teams battle it out for the ultimate prize.

“I am just happy that football for women is back and it’s all thanks to FNB Namibia,” Shipanga said.

Beauties FC coach and owner Salome Iyambo hopes her team will return with the same strength as last season.

Her team dominated the season with flair and finesse.

“The team has been working hard in training and we would just like to continue where we left off last season.

“We are not saying it’s going to be easy because we know that teams will come at us, but we will be ready,” Iyambo told Sport Wrap.

The official fixtures for the season will be released within the week as teams prepare for battle this coming weekend.

Last season

Beauties FC were crowned champions of the 2024/25 season with an impressive unbeaten record in 22 matches, collecting 58 log points during that period.

The team’s remarkable unbeaten streak saw them win N$250 000 in the process.

Ongos Ladies FC finished in second place, earning N$150 000, while African Stars Ladies walked away with N$100 000 for their third-place efforts.

Ongos Ladies FC’s goal machine, Memory Ngonda, won both Player of the Season and Top Scorer of the Season after netting 39 goals.

Sponsorship blessing

The women’s league faced a period of uncertainty towards the end of the year before FNB Namibia recommitted to sponsoring the league.

The bank announced a sponsorship of N$9.3 million towards the Women’s Super League for a period of three years.

The money will be divided into three seasons of Women’s Super League football.
