FC Ongos wary of Bucks threat
FC Ongos face a challenging weekend, taking on two teams in contrasting form.
Their first test comes against Bucks Buccaneers FC on Friday night at the Windhoek Independence Stadium. Ongos know they cannot afford to underestimate their opponents.
With the league leaders in their sights, coach Ronnie Kanalelo believes a win against his former team could pile pressure on top-two sides African Stars and Eeshoke Chula Chula.
“We have a chance to put pressure on the top two this weekend, but our main focus is winning the match,” Kanalelo said. “Having coached Bucks Buccaneers before, we know their strengths and will come up with a plan to contain their attacks. It promises to be entertaining football, and we are aiming for all three points.”
Ongos currently sit six points behind African Stars and five behind Eeshoke Chula Chula, having earned 44 points from 26 matches. They have the fewest losses in the league, with only two defeats this season. The team has won 10 games and drawn 14, dropping points on those occasions.
Bucks Buccaneers, in contrast, have had a solid campaign and occupy seventh place on the league table. Ongos’ other weekend fixture sees them face Okahandja United on Sunday, who are battling near the relegation zone.
Kanalelo is determined to secure maximum points to set up a potential grand finale against African Stars. “There is still so much to play for, and we are aiming for a strong finish to the season,” he added.
