DSFA youth tourney kicks off Friday

The DS Football Academy (DSFA) will host the International Youth Football Tournament at Windhoek Technical High School (HTS) in the capital, where local teams will battle visiting sides from Zambia and Botswana from Friday to Sunday.

Organisers said this year’s edition will bring together players across the under-seven, under-nine, under-11, under-13, under-15 and under-17 age categories, giving them an opportunity to test themselves against unfamiliar opposition.

Visiting domestic teams will come from Rundu’s Hope Football Academy (FA), Swakopmund’s Genesis FA and Mariental FA.

They will join Windhoek-based sides DSFA, Riverheights FA, Windhoek City, African Stars, Ramblers, Warriors, Dama, St Paul’s and Athletic Club FA.

DSFA spokesperson Jason Shikomba confirmed the participation of teams from Botswana and Zambia.

“We’re fortunate to have the Botswana Football Association attending with their junior national grassroots team, Botswana Football Academy (BFA), while Aguila Stars from Zambia will also be joining us,” Shikomba said.


International connections

He added that the international participation reflects the connections the academy has built and strengthened, particularly after its second trip to Botswana in July for the Dinaledi Youth Tournament in Oodi.

“We’re really excited about what we have managed to put together. For us, it’s about more than just putting on a tournament. It’s about creating opportunities for young players to compete,” he said.

Shikomba said he hopes the tournament will expose players to different styles of football and help build relationships across borders as organisers continue working to develop youth football in the region.

“We look forward to three exciting days of football, competition, new connections and hopefully some great stories to come out of it.”
