Exciting victories at the Cohen Cup 2025

Fistball
Last Saturday, the annual Cohen Cup Fistball Tournament took place at the Cohen Fistball Club in Windhoek. Hosts CFC 1 won the trophy for the first time since 2018 after a heated final, while SKW A celebrated victory in the U13 junior category.

The U13 fistball players kicked off on Saturday morning. As in previous tournaments, SKW A were the team to beat. The Green-Whites secured the tournament victory without a single loss, followed by their clubmates SKW B, who claimed two wins against hosts CFC 3.

Seven teams were divided into two groups in the adult category. In Group A, SFC surprisingly defeated CFC 1 2–0. The Royal Blues from Swakopmund ended the 43-match winning streak of CFC 1. Interestingly, U18 A also recorded a 2–1 victory against SFC. Since CFC 1 also beat SKW 2 and U18 A, SFC, U18 A, and CFC 1 each finished with six points. Due to a better set difference, SFC secured first place in the group ahead of CFC 1. U18 A, in third place, moved into the placement games for 5th–7th place alongside fourth-placed SKW 2.

In Group B, SKW 1 beat CFC 2 and U18 B. They were followed by U18 B, who advanced to the semi-finals. CFC 2 finished third and proceeded to the placement games against U18 A and SKW 2. In the semi-finals, SFC A defeated U18 B 2–0, while CFC 1 comfortably beat SKW 1 2–0.

In the final, CFC 1 narrowly won the first set 12–10 against a strong SFC team. The fistball players from the coast equalised before CFC 1 faced a tough challenge in the third set, which was won by SFC 11–3. SFC needed only one more set to win the tournament, but the hosts fought back to level the score. CFC 1 quickly took the lead in the deciding set. Midway through, SFC turned the match around to lead 6–5 and later extended it to 9–5, prompting CFC 1 to call a timeout. After the break, CFC 1 rallied, scoring four consecutive points to equalise at 9–9. SFC earned match point but failed to close it out, and CFC 1 went on to claim the set 14–12 — and with it, the tournament title (3–2 sets).

The National Cup Tournament will take place on 8 November in Swakopmund. From 13–19 October, a training camp will be held at SKW under the direction of women’s national team coaches Jessica Sitz and Didi Foerster. The squad teams of the U18 boys and girls, women, and U13 will be participating.
