Hollard Namibia has proudly announced a three-year partnership with junior cyclist Roger Surén, supporting him on his journey toward qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

This commitment will take the 18-year-old through the crucial build-up years of training and international competition, ensuring he has the backing he needs all the way to the Olympics.

Surén’s silver medal in the junior men’s cross-country race at the UCI world mountain biking championship in Switzerland two weekends ago marked a historic milestone for Namibian cycling, placing him firmly on the global stage.

His achievement was the first of its kind for Namibia at this level and this performance has inspired both aspiring athletes and the broader sporting community.

Jaco Lamprecht, CEO of Hollard Namibia, said: “Roger’s achievement at the World Champs is more than just a podium finish; it’s a symbol of Namibian resilience, potential, and ambition.

“Our three-year commitment is about giving him the stability and resources to focus on becoming the very best he can be, and about helping to inspire a new generation of Namibian cyclists and athletes.”

Hollard’s support will include financial assistance, access to training resources, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to international racing, equipping Roger with the tools needed to build on his breakthrough success.

Hollard Namibia believes in investing in young talent and creating platforms for Namibians to shine on the world stage. “With Roger, we see not just an athlete, but a role model whose journey can inspire others to pursue their own dreams with dedication and courage.

“We are excited to follow his progress as he continues to break new ground and proudly fly the Namibian flag on his road to Los Angeles 2028.”

• Surén will be competing at the UCI world road cycling championship in Rwanda’s capital Kigali this week, alongside his compatriots Franco Thiel, Rosemarie Thiel and Delsia Janse van Vuuren.

Unfortunately Monique du Plessis (U23 women) had to withdraw before the start of yesterday\'s individual time trial, after she experienced a nasty fall during a training ride the previous day. Du Plessis is still hopeful of recovering in time for the road race on Thursday afternoon in Kigali.
