KBA rewards Heroes Cup standout performers
The Khomas Basketball Association (KBA) wrapped up its three-week Heroes Cup on 26 August, Namibia’s Heroes Day, with Unam Phoenix and Quality Basketball Club (QBC) crowned champions alongside the tournament’s standout performers.
The 22-team battle, which began at the Basketball Artists School (BAS) courts in Katutura on 8 August, culminated on Wednesday at the University of Namibia’s (Unam) Gym Hall.
There, Unam Phoenix and QBC claimed the women’s and men’s KBA Heroes Cup championships, respectively. The two champions were awarded gold medals and trophies.
The tournament’s Most Valuable Players (MVPs) also came from the crowned champions.
Phoenix captain Anna Iimene was named the women’s MVP, while QBC’s Yaurovandu “Yauraa” Ndjavera claimed the men’s MVP award, with both players receiving trophies for their standout performances at the event.
Other podium finishers
Ongos Shooting Stars took the women’s silver medal, while Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) Gladiators claimed the men’s silver medal. Nust added another medal through their women’s side, with Nust Dodgers claiming bronze.
The men’s bronze medal went to Unam Wolves. Completing the top four were BAS Falcons in the women’s section and Unam Cadets in the men’s section.
Reflecting on the event, tournament director Shilongo Nekundi extended gratitude to Sport Wrap, which served as the event’s official media partner, for its efforts in “covering the sport we love and taking it beyond the capital and country’s borders.”
Nekundi also thanked the teams that showed up to compete, the KBA officials and the basketball community for helping make the event successful.
“The fans really made this a great spectacle. With the KBA League playoffs imminent, we hope Sport Wrap will come on board again and stream the [deciding] games. From our end as KBA, we will keep up the efforts to uplift the sport,” he said.
