In what was the biggest number of runners in the history of the long-standing partnership between Namibia Medical Care (NMC) and the Windhoek City Runners Club (WCRC), a whopping more than 2000 enthusiasts from across Namibia laced up for the 2026 edition of this popular event on Saturday.

This action-packed event kicked off before sunrise with runners strutting their stuff across different distances – 5 km, 10 km, 15 km and 21.1 km, all starting and finishing at Padel Namibia in Olympia.

Part of the route for the majority of the categories included a challenging ascent along the majestic Gamsa Street, allowing for breath-taking views of the Namibian capital.

Emmanuel Murwira, the vice-chairperson of the Windhoek City Runners Club, confirmed the record turnout. “We were happy to host our biggest NMC running party ever. We are impressed with the growing running culture in Windhoek.”

Acknowledging the mammoth nature of the undertaking, he added: “Whilst the record number of entrants provided us with new logistical challenges, I am extremely proud of the agile approach by the team to ensure runners’ needs were catered for.”

In the build-up to the NMC Run, Windhoek City Runners Club and its members had been doing their part to systematically develop their fitness to meet personal goals in 2026.

Consistency beats speed, is the mantra for aspiring runners looking ahead at challenges for the upcoming road running season.

The club’s fifth event in the 5x5 Challenge (five-kilometre runs on five consecutive mornings) was held on Sunday 18 January.
