Three Namibians off to World Champs

Athletics Namibia (AN) has announced that three athletes – marathon runners Alina Armas and Tomas Rainhold and long jumper Chenoult Lionel Coetzee – will depart today for this year’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The championship is taking place from 19 to 27 August.

The athletes will be accompanied by team coach Paulus Ndangi Iiyambo and official Belinda Oberholster.

The championships are in their nineteenth edition and will be held at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest.

Namibia attends athletics congress

Meanwhile, AN’s president, Erwin Naimwhaka, will travel to the World Athletics elective congress as an invited delegate. On 17 August, the 54th World Athletics Congress will elect its president, four vice presidents, and 13 individual council members.

The role of the council is to govern the sport of athletics. It is responsible for all decisions related to the sport of athletics, as well as for the conduct and management of the sport and its disciplines.
