Coach and owner of Beauties FC, Salome Iyambo, has sung praises for her players after they were officially crowned champions of the FNB Women’s Super League over the weekend. The team managed to defeat one of their toughest competitors, African Stars Queens, 1-0 on the final day of the season.
However, the job had already been done about a week earlier when it was announced that the club had secured the league title with a game to spare.
The team was crowned with an impressive unbeaten record in 22 matches, collecting 58 points during this period.
Speaking at the crowning ceremony at the NFA Technical Center on Saturday, Iyambo congratulated her team for their effort and success.
“I must commend the girls for the energy and dedication they have shown throughout the season and for listening to instructions.
“We wanted it the most this time around because we wanted to reclaim our glory days from when I was a player for Okahandja Beauties, as the team was known back then.
“The team won 12 unbeaten league titles, and now this is the 13th time we have won the title. We are proud of that,” Iyambo said.
The team went the entire season unbeaten, achieving a remarkable record and winning N$250,000 in the process.
Beauties FC captain and goalkeeper Melissa Matheus was named Goalkeeper of the Season for the team.
“It was not easy for us this season because our aim was to finish first and remain unbeaten, which we have achieved.
“It is the first title for most of the players, and they are really happy with this achievement today.
“For next season, we will be working hard because we want to keep winning the league consecutively,” Matheus said.
FC Ongos Ladies finished in second place, earning N$150,000, while African Stars walked away with N$100,000 for their efforts.
FC Ongos' goal machine, Memory Ngonda, won both Player of the Season and Top Scorer of the Season after netting 39 goals.
